Project Pink was an ultra-fast renovation of an existing Raising Cane&#8217;s restaurant, completed in total secrecy. Raising Cane&#8217;s partnered with rapper Post Malone, who designed every aspect of this one-of-a-kind location. Under a strict non-disclosure agreement, Big-D embarked on this adventure just weeks prior to its unveiling. The scope included a complete redesign of the dining room, restrooms, building exterior, and landscaping. To achieve the solid pink appearance, crews applied full vinyl wrap to exterior and interior walls and repainted the drive-thru canopy, menu boards, site concrete, patio canopy, and furniture. New flooring was installed throughout, and electrical work included modifications to lighting, ceiling fans, and backlighting for a wall-mounted ping pong ball track system. Restrooms were remodeled in a medieval theme, and personal items from Post Malone were installed as artful displays. Construction was concealed by scaffolding and exterior tenting, with major portions of the work completed at night or while the restaurant was closed.

Raising Cane’s Post Malone “Project Pink”

This tenant improvement buildout prepared a new home for HKS Architects in 222 Main, a premier downtown high-rise. The workspace features a welcoming reception area, versatile conference facilities, and an expansive open office layout with focus rooms and collaborative team spaces. A dedicated wellness center and modern breakroom support employee wellbeing. Working in an occupied multi-tenant high-rise required precision logistics and meticulous coordination to minimize disruption to neighboring tenants. Site constraints called for just-in-time deliveries throughout the project. The team also incorporated select doors and hardware salvaged from HKS&#8217;s previous office, balancing sustainability goals with design objectives.

The Parking Spot is the nation’s largest near-airport parking company with more than 38 locations at 21 airports. They provide near-airport parking for travelers out of Salt Lake City International Airport and quick shuttle service to and from the airport. This project was for construction of a new location, a 33-acre property that provides 730 covered spaces and 1,300 uncovered spaces. The facility features a sustainable design, including solar reflective canopy structures, 100 percent LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations and recycled building materials. Big-D self-performed the concrete work on the parking facility.

The Parking Spot Off-Airport Parking Facility

This design-build project delivered a two-story office building for an Ogden-based electrical contractor. The structure features a concrete slab-on-grade foundation with architectural insulated metal panel (IMP) walls and aluminum storefront windows. The first floor includes a full-height lobby and reception area, conference room, training room, private offices, 5,627 square feet of warehouse space, and employee support areas. The second floor houses additional offices, a balcony off the CEO&#8217;s office, and storage. Generous storefront glazing provides abundant natural light throughout. Interior finishes are modern and distinctive, featuring exposed structural steel elements, dark cherry wood trim, cabinets with spoke wheel vintage hardware, and concrete floors with a marble-look epoxy coating. The scope also included all site and utility work, asphalt paving, and landscaping.

Winward Electric Headquarters Office

This multi-function facility houses offices for both Sunroc and Sunpro along with a large eight-bay shop. The two-story office building features a central lobby, private offices, open office space, large and small conference rooms, copy-work stations, a training room, employee break room, and support spaces. The transition area between offices and shop is also two-story, including a fitness center, extensive storage, a shop office, and dedicated shop employee break room. The approximately 23,000-square-foot shop area includes a welding shop, oil and lube bay, paint booth, and truck wash bay. Multiple pull-through bays are served by compressed air and oil and lube systems.

Sunroc and Sunpro Offices and Shop/Warehouse

This project consists of the ground-up construction of a new Kia dealership on an approximately 12.9-acre site. The facility will encompass roughly 47,000 square feet and include a modern showroom, customer amenities, and a full-service automotive service department. The building will feature a masonry exterior shell with a structural system comprised of steel joists and metal roof decking, topped with a high-performance foam roofing system. Designed to meet Kia’s latest brand standards, the dealership reflects the new generation of Kia facilities, incorporating elevated architectural elements, contemporary design features, and high-end interior and exterior finishes to deliver an enhanced customer and brand experience.

The Delta Air Lines Flight Operations Center is a state-of-the-art pilot training facility located near the Salt Lake City International Airport.
This two-story building is a steel-frame structure finished with metal panels and dynamic curtainwall glazing. Interior spaces include four high-ceiling bays with full motion simulators, four procedure trainers, seven classrooms, ten briefing rooms, offices, a conference room, and a café. Finishes are all high-end, consistent with the Delta brand, and executed at the highest quality and attention to detail. Exterior scope included utility coordination, site paving, landscaping, etc. This facility significantly enhances Delta’s training capabilities, providing easier access for pilots based in the western U.S.

Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall Expansion

Tom Scott Toyota is a 46,000 sq ft concrete tilt-up Toyota dealership located on Can-Ada and Franklin roads in Nampa, Idaho. It is only the second Toyota dealership in the U.S to showcase Toyota’s new design standards and acts as a prototype for future Toyota dealerships and renovations. The inside offers a comfortable open showroom, administrative offices, quick lube stations, service, carwash, and parts department. The outside displays modern architecture and design including stylish ACM panels and illuminating external panels to distinguish itself among surrounding dealerships. Construction of the dealership was completed turnkey in 7 months.

McAlvain provided CM|GC services for the total reconstruction of the Grove Plaza and three spokes to modernize the high-use pedestrian plaza.  Major improvements include: new brick pavers, illuminate jet-water fountain, shade structures, performance stage, sound and lighting, tree replacement, silva cell zones and high efficiency water-wise irrigation system.

19,000 SF 3 story office building serving as headquarters for engineering firm Keller Associates with offices, conference rooms, kitchen and outdoor roof patio. Project highlights include structural steel and concrete, tilted outward and sloped upward curtain wall, and insulated and ventilated Parklex natural wood rain screen façade cladding from Spain. Interior finishes feature decorative light fixtures, white oak wood stairs, quartz countertops, and custom furniture for the conference rooms.

MKA Office Building at Trackside

About 10 years ago, a highly-respected capital management firm hired Dovetail to build out an office space in their historic downtown building in Bozeman, Montana. The result was a tasteful and beautiful workspace that has been enjoyed by staff and clients ever since. However, as the firm grew, they wanted a space that was a bit more contemporary and would accommodate their growing staff within a sleek and welcoming environment.
We undertook a significant remodel, featuring steel and privacy glass accented by the warmth of custom woodwork throughout — a stunning live-edge walnut serving bar, wide-plank gray oak flooring, and custom oak planters at work stations. Now they’re set for the next 10 years (at least) with a stunning office space that better fits their company brand.

Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale is a unique project in several ways. The project converted an existing, underperforming three-story office building. Our team needed to maintain all services to the building in order to accommodate tenants moving out while still delivering the project to the dealership on time. Construction needed to be in two phases, with the first phase completed in less than three months after the existing tenant moved out. New construction included a ground-up showroom, demolition and a rebuild the east and west half of the existing building. The scope of work for the 115,000 SF, three-story dealership included building a car ramp on the south exterior face of the building that provided access to the second and third floors to park new Mercedes vehicles on these floors.

This project is a ground-up Jaguar Land Rover Dealership, located on the Penske Campus in Chandler, Arizona. The building features a showroom area, hospitality area, service shop area, service advisor/drop-off area, finance and insurance area, car delivery area and parts department with a parts storage mezzanine. This project had to be logistically planned so that the construction efforts and the Auto Group Business surrounding the project could build and operate in and efficient and productive manner during construction. To keep the businesses in seamless operations, our leadership team laid out traffic flow patterns, delivery flow patterns and product display areas so that there was a good experience when customers entered the campus.

Morton Commerce Center is a four-building industrial development on a 30-acre site, situated between Silicon Valley and Oakland. It’s comprised of state-of-the-art buildings that were designed and constructed for flexibility and the ability for tenants to “super park” for companies with large numbers of employees. Buildings feature skylights for ample natural light, extensive glass lines, 30- to 32-foot clear height and numerous dock doors, an ESFR sprinkler system, roofs with 100% solar capacity, exterior workspaces to encourage productivity and employee collaboration, and office space and office-to-suit capacity. All buildings are equipped with heavy power, ideal for tenants involved in advanced automation; contract manufacturing and assembly; 3D printing; food manufacturing and preparation; life science research and development; biotechnology; automotive supply chain functions; aerospace and defense work; and autonomous driving. Big-D’s scope of work also included miscellaneous offsite improvements; curbing, traffic signal installation, etc.
