This multi-phase renovation transformed a 1965 government facility while maintaining continuous 24/7 operations for over 500 federal employees. Work on the masonry structure included partial re-roofing, seismic bracing of unsupported walls and roof systems, complete replacement of mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and installation of more than 200 new windows. Interior improvements encompassed twelve rebuilt restrooms, refreshed finishes throughout public areas, and an upgraded central cafeteria. Exterior work spanned the 60-acre site and included utility line replacement, enhanced lighting, masonry cleaning, and comprehensive landscaping. Fire protection and life safety systems received complete upgrades with seismic bracing of suppression piping to ensure code compliance.

IRS Ogden Service Center Modernization

Big-D served as design-builder on this consolidated public safety facility, partnering with Galloway Co. to bring together the Highway Patrol, DPS Emergency Communications, and Driver License Divisions under one roof. The single-story, steel framed masonry building accommodates separate working areas for each agency along with shared space for fitness, breaks, and training. The project required close coordination across multiple stakeholders and careful attention to specialized systems. Detention areas for Highway Patrol demanded enhanced security features, while the building&#8217;s role as an emergency dispatch hub called for advanced communications infrastructure. Installation of the radio tower was particularly complex, requiring meticulous planning to meet specific RF (radio frequency) pathways and L3 Harris grounding standards. Big-D&#8217;s scope extended beyond the building itself to include all site development, including the Driver License test course.

Box Elder Public Safety

This design-build project delivered a new facility to house the city&#8217;s Police Department and Justice Court, replacing an outdated building that no longer met city needs. The single-story steel-framed structure features a CMU, brick veneer, and architectural concrete exterior. Interior spaces for both departments include a secure sallyport entrance, processing areas, patrol offices, armory, interview rooms, storage, courtroom, judge&#8217;s chambers, prosecutor office, and jury room. Support spaces include a fitness room, locker rooms, breakroom, and kitchenette. Site work included drought-resistant landscaping, retaining walls, perimeter fencing, utility coordination, and demolition of the previous police/court building.

North Ogen Public Safety

This facility serves multiple Salt Lake County municipalities for waste handling and transfer. The main 46,000-square-foot transfer building features concrete tilt-up construction with 28-foot interior clearances and a column-free tipping floor enabled by a long-span truss system. Translucent panels provide natural daylighting, and specialized tipping slabs with debris collection tunnels support efficient operations. Supporting facilities include a two-story, 5,000-square-foot operations building and a 4,100-square-foot maintenance building, along with scale houses, canopies, and a recycling area. Site development involved extensive infrastructure work including sewer and culinary water line relocations, significant grading operations, and construction of retaining walls. Additional improvements include asphalt and concrete paving, perimeter fencing, and landscaping.

Trans-Jordan Waste Transfer Station

This 20-acre city project combines recreational areas, cemetery expansion, and significant infrastructure improvements at the city&#8217;s center. The recreation area includes a three-story playground, splash pad, basketball court, two futsal courts, soccer fields, skate park, bicycle pump track, trails, pavilions, restrooms, and shade structures. The cemetery expansion contains hundreds of plots, a columbarium, and a gathering pavilion. Preliminary work included demolition of existing structures and hazardous materials mitigation. The scope also involved expansion and reconstruction of surrounding streets with utilities, curb, gutter, sidewalk, pavement, lighting, landscaping, irrigation, fencing, walls, and parking. Four detention ponds with multiple storm drain lines manage stormwater for the area.

Tooele Fire Station No.3 is a 17,000 square foot, two-story facility in North Tooele. It includes a three-door apparatus bay, ten dorm rooms, a gym, a training room, and an ambulance bay, enhancing the Fire Department’s capabilities as the city grows. The station features a 45-foot-tall training tower for realistic firefighter training, complete with hatches, doors, and rappelling anchor points. The training room can accommodate gatherings of the 50+ volunteer firefighters. This station is significant for Tooele’s first responders, symbolizing future growth and development.

The Wells Fargo Bank branch in Golden Valley, MN is a building of steel construction with ACM metal panel and stone exterior finishes. This location of Wells Fargo was one of the first to use their new modern shell design. The original building was torn down, and the structure was moved to a different corner of the lot to make room for a multi-family housing building, The Sentinel apartments. From demolition of the original branch to the leasing of the apartments, this project will take 31 months to complete.

The City of Ammon Sanitation building project was for construction of a new 6,500 square foot public works support structure, primarily for the storage of City sanitation trucks. This structure is a single slope pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) with numerous truck doors on the high side. The six-bay building includes a shared office with multiple workstations, storage on the main floor and mezzanine, and a utility room. This new building will aid the municipality in its mission to serve the community.

Ammon City Sanitation Truck Storage Facility

The TAN-691 facility located at the Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Test Area North was a ground up project for the construction of a new building to be used as a maintenance/shop and vehicle storage facility. The building is a support facility for the INL’s Specific Manufacturing Capability (SMC). SMC has been the lead manufacturer of armor packages for the U.S. Army’s Abrams main battle tank. This facility will be utilized by the U.S. Army.
The building is a steel structure that is clad with metal wall panels and utilizes a TPO roofing system. It features three drive-thru bays for vehicle service and seven additional bays accessed by roll-up doors dedicated to vehicle storage. Vehicle maintenance areas have adjacent support space for work benches and special tools/equipment and also features an EnviroLube service pit. Interior areas/layout includes office space, a break room, restrooms, fire riser room, and mechanical and electrical rooms.

Idaho National Laboratory TAN-691 Vehicle Maintenance Building

The Fremont County Detention Center Expansion Project was a significant undertaking aimed at enhancing the existing Sheriff&#8217;s and Jail facilities and the first major upgrade for the jail since its original construction in 1981. The project encompassed the construction of a new single-story, 11,800-sq ft expansion which included a second-floor connector linking to the existing courthouse&#8217;s second floor. The structure was built using CMU block construction, structural steel beam, and cast in place concrete ceilings. The exterior was carefully planned to complement the existing buildings, incorporating materials like brick veneer, stone, CMU, and flat roofs. A backup generator was installed to ensure continuous power supply during outages, and the building was equipped with advanced security systems.
Designed to accommodate two 20-bed pods with multi-occupant cells and four solitary holding cells, the expansion included essential areas such as exercise yards, dayrooms, a control room, booking area, kitchen, and a vehicle sallyport. Additionally, shell space of approximately 1,900-sq ft was allocated for the County to provide new space for Dispatch.

The F-22 Heavy Maintenance and Composite Back Shop is a 105,232-sf, single-story design-build project built to support industrial production of the F-22 fighter aircraft. The seven-dock, medium-bay fighter aircraft maintenance hangar features aircraft support areas, equipment rooms and an administrative support addition to Building 674. Workers have access to a new media blast booth, paint booth and five maintenance booths. Three maintenance booths are able to convert to paint booths with a simple insert. The facility includes Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection features such as an effective building layout and window and door designs to minimize flying debris risks. Finishes incorporated laminated glazing and hollow steel doors and frames. This facility was built to UFC 4-010-01 standards incorporating mass-notification systems tied into the Hill AFB master system.

The Crystal Public Works Building is a new, single-story, insulated precast concrete panel structure for the storage and maintenance of municipal vehicles and equipment and the building replaced the City’s outdated facility.
The new building features a joist and deck roof structure, a single-ply roof membrane with skylights, an energy-efficient geothermal heating system, and the street-facing elevation features a metal panel clad exterior and abundant windows. The interior features offices, locker room, conference room, training room, a large employee café / lunchroom, utility shop, 90-ft drive-through vehicle storage bays, two underhung overhead bridge cranes (2-ton and 3-ton), wash bay, vehicle hoist and high-performance roll-up doors. Construction also included storm water treatment ponds and tanks, a “brine room” to mix salt with water for salting roads, fueling station, and a multi-bay covered storage shed. The 5.3-acre site is primarily paved with asphalt and includes only minimal landscaping.

The Mohave County Superior Court project consists of a new four-story, 61,597-sf Superior Court building and associated 655-sf bridge, adjacent to the existing court. The lower floor will house public business while the second and third floors will contain the Clerk of Court offices, seven courtrooms and other related space. The top floor is intended for the judge’s chambers and staff areas. To support the building operations, a total of 4,329-sf will be allocated for staircases, elevators and janitor closets along with electrical, mechanical and central plant machine rooms. The historic courthouse and the new building will be connected by an enclosed corridor allowing travel from the second floor of the historic courthouse to the first floor of the new building. The Mohave County Courthouse was constructed in 1915 and has housed the Mohave County government for more than 70 years.
