This facility serves as Holcim&#8217;s manufacturing and distribution center for roofing insulation and sheet metal products. The structure features tilt-up concrete panels with an aluminum storefront and painted exterior, along with drive-in doors, dock doors with levelers, and chemical storage tanks. The project incorporated Holcim&#8217;s own FortiCem blended cement and Elevate products, reducing the building&#8217;s carbon footprint. The roof system includes an UltraPly TPO membrane, ISOGARD insulation, and SunWave skylights. An 8,000-square-foot office area includes a lobby, training room, lounge, break rooms, and conference rooms. Specialized manufacturing support spaces include a flammable storage room, lab, and bulk chemical storage room. The facility is equipped with a high-pressure gas line and 4,000 amps of electrical service. Sitework included earthwork, utilities, paving, and landscaping.

Founded in 2016, EuroContempo Cabinetry produces residential and commercial cabinetry, including kitchen cabinets, bath vanities, closets, and garage storage solutions. With the latest in automation, EuroContempo Cabinetry can quickly build cabinets that have hundreds of combinations of colors and finishes.
In March 2017, the company announced plans to construct a 72,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Mesa, Arizona. The new facility is expected to bring 40 new jobs to the region.

Eurocontempo Cabinetry Manufacturing Facility

Simms Fishing Products is a company that develops the world’s premier technical fishing apparel, footwear, and equipment. When the company relocated its headquarters in Bozeman, Montana in 2012, it engaged JLF Architects and Big-D Construction to design and build a facility that would speak to the company’s brand as the “icon” in the fishing industry. Simms encourages its customer base to visit their headquarters, so incorporating a brand narrative into the design was essential.

DSI Underground Systems is the world’s leading supplier of ground support products, systems and solutions for the underground mining and tunneling industry. They develop, manufacture, and supply their innovative products globally and have a large presence in Utah. Big-D Construction built this new, concrete tilt-up panel facility which DSI Underground utilizes as both a manufacturing facility and a warehouse/distribution center for the Western US Region. The manufacturing warehouse area includes two bridge cranes which run the length of the building with one that moves outside in a canopy area. The DSI building also includes a two-story, 7,838-sf administrative space that contains the lobby, employee break rooms, private offices, and support rooms on the first floor, and additional offices and conference rooms on the second floor.

DSI Underground Systems Warehouse

The Action Target project is a new, tilt-up concrete facility that includes 30,000-sf of two-story administrative space and an 85,000-sf manufacturing and warehouse space. Administrative areas include private offices, open offices, conference rooms, and showrooms. The manufacturing and warehouse area includes a light assembly area, paint booths, shop spaces, crane bays, machining/fabrication spaces, and a shipping and receiving area. Project challenges included abatement of contaminated site soils, installation of rammed aggregate piers to prevent building settlement, and numerous Owner-initiated scope additions. Through value engineering and careful cost management, the Action Target project was completed on time and under budget.

Action Target Office, Manufacturing & Warehouse Facility

Sunroc is a supplier of concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry block, construction materials. This new facility includes three separate concrete masonry structures: a block manufacturing plant, a retail office/showroom space, and a large storage building. The Plant is an approximately 18,200-sf CMU building that included 18 kilns built out of masonry and installation of manufacturing equipment that completely automates the production of the CMU. The 4,900-sf retail building is a CMU and metal frame building that houses a showroom, dispatch office, conference room, employee break area, and administrative offices. The 4,500-sf storage shed is a CMU building with three large overhead coiling doors to store finished materials manufactured in the on-site plant. During construction, Big-D managed challenges like extensive Owner, design team, and vendor coordination to ensure proper fit for the kilns and unique weather conditions specific to that area of the Salt Lake valley which pose more frequent temperature fluctuations in both winter and summer and constant wind.
